SIN4G is a volunteer-led, non-profit organization that believes people are constantly in their prime

The Seniors’ Independent Network for Accelerating Growth (SIN4G), a volunteer-led organization founded by four Benguet State University–Open University graduate students, rolled out its maiden project in the City of Dasmariñas, Cavite on November 25, 2023.

For its official kick-off, the organization held a seminar titled “SIN4G Tayo: The Ageing Process and Seniors’ Rights” wherein senior citizens of Brgy. Burol II participated.

Maria Pellosis, one of SIN4G’s founding members, said, “It is unfortunate that many senior citizens in the country feel less valued by the society which they collectively reared decades before. It’s a narrative that we want to start rewriting as our way of giving back to them.”

“With SIN4G, we will push for their meaningful participation to reinvigorate their independence, autonomy, and enthusiasm in becoming active members of social change again by providing opportunities for personal and skills development for enterprise development,” Pellosis added.

However, before delving into business concept-rich capacity building initiatives, the group felt it was necessary to ensure that the seniors’ morale is high moving forward and that they have strong orientation of their basic rights.

Dr. Maria Zenaida M. Tumambing, family physician from the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, served as resource speaker for “ageing gracefully”; meanwhile, the group facilitated the discussion on seniors’ rights stipulated in the Expended Senior Citizens Act of 2010.

“Advocacy for elders is a noble endeavor among the younger age group as they make them feel loved and cared in their twilight years, aligned to the Filipino value of respect. In addition, this engagement provides opportunities for life coaching and mentoring, a much-needed social interaction among age groups,” said the volunteers’ course facilitator, Prof. Raymundo H. Pawid Jr., a registered Psychologist, and who instigated this requirement in Social Psychology that is societally significant and sustainable.

The introductory SIN4G Tayo seminar was made possible by the Universal Robina Corporation, which donated Php 100,000 worth of in-kind donation. The seminar was also supported by the Pampanga Business Development Coordinating Council, Ateneo Blue Eagles Pampanga, Ateneo Graduate School of Business–Pampanga, Food Sec Filipinas, UNILAB Foundation, and City Government of Dasmariñas.

The organization was initiated through the CD203: Social Psychology course for the 1^st semester, A.Y. 2023-2024, but the group will continue on their pursuit going forward.

Pellosis co-founded SIN4G with Barbra Jean Litrero, Alan Caingles, and Keanu Aebramh Costales, sophomore MCD students as of writing.
