Doctor of Philosophy is a graduate program leading to a doctoral degree that focuses on research and prepares students for a life of scholarship in an academic discipline. A PhD students must show the capability to make an original contribution in pursuing the frontier of knowledge in a chosen field through dissertation, and to demonstrate ability to work independently as a student.
The PhD Language Education by Research program aims to hone further the research skill of the students, acquired mostly through experience under the professional guidance of specialist(s) in particular areas of specialization. The program likewise allows the students to earn the degree through submission, and the successful defense of a dissertation, without the usual academic course requirements. The program requires almost their entire residency to research.
